- Diedra Taylor, a single mother of four, moved to the Lower 9th Ward in 2004. The first-time homeowner and her family had only lived in their newly constructed home for 14 months before it was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina, forcing her to evacuate to Weatherford, Texas.

- Mr. Rick remembers his neighborhood as being “nice and quiet.” He was one of the newer members of the neighborhood, moving there in 1993 with his family. He knew some of his neighbors and recalled that they kept to themselves, for the most part, and diligently maintained their property.

- Ann R. Parfaite grew up in New Orleans and purchased a home in the Lower 9th Ward in the late 1960’s. She and many of her neighbors moved to what Ms. Parfaite fondly refers to as “tree-lined Tennessee Street” following Hurricane Betsy.

- Ms. Leggett and her family have lived in the Lower 9th Ward since 1977, when her mother bought their home from one of her cousins. Ms. Leggett is thankful to be home.

- A retired professional baker, Gloria Guy was born and raised in the Lower 9th Ward. She loved her peaceful neighborhood and her quiet neighbors prior to Hurricane Katrina. Ms. Guy knew most of them and fondly recalls going to the local church. She especially loved Friday services when the children participated in programs.
