Homeowner Story

Juanita Andrews

Born in Tylertown, Mississippi, Juanita Andrews settled in the Lower 9th Ward in the 1950’s, where she lived until Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast in 2005.
“It was a nice neighborhood,” Juanita Andrews recalls. She, like many other Lower 9th Ward residents, remembers raising her children and attending church in the closely-knit neighborhood. “My children were close. My church was close,” said Andrews, who belonged to a Church of God in Christ congregation located nearby on Charbonnet Street.
In preparation for Hurricane Katrina, Andrews and her family evacuated to Natchez, Mississippi. She currently resides in Jackson, Mississippi with her daughter and anxiously awaits the chance to return “home.”
Ms. Andrews and many of her neighbors will get the chance soon enough, with the help of Make It Right.
Andrews selected the three bedroom home design by Los Angeles-based architectural firm Graft. She is expected to move into her home in May.
