5.) Why is MIR only building within the Lower 9th Ward?
We acknowledge that Katrina's devastation is widespread and reaches far beyond the Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans. The impact ripples into large and intense circles of need and recovery.
Make It Right has a mission to rebuild homes using an eco-friendly, sustainable, and affordable design. The scope is currently on the Lower 9th Ward, with an ambitious intent to build 150 homes. It is hopefully a starting point. Once the fulfillment of this project has been made, it is a possibility that this plan can be replicated in other areas.
In this massive recovery effort it is impossible to be everywhere at once. It is understood that other parts of New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast were damaged and have huge needs. With the generous donations and enormous tasks at hand, it is necessary to define a focused scope of work to be achieved.
Our wishes for a continued recovery reach far beyond these 150 homes we are building. If you are a Katrina victim, please accept our sympathies for your hardship and loss.
